Winter Storms, Avalanches Slow Travel in the Region

Colorado Department of Transportation
Avalanches closed roads all throughout the state of Colorado, including on Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel

Snow from multiple winter storms in the area has caused traffic delays and road closures over the past week.

An accident and icy conditions closed a section of Highway 160 on Monday morning.  Lizard head pass was also closed for about four hours on Tuesday due to avalanche mitigation. Four other area passes have also been closed due to avalanches, and the Colorado Department of Transportation says in a statement that it plans to conduct both planned and unplanned avalanche mitigation work on several mountain passes through Thursday. The National Weather Service predicts another storm will move through the end of the week, with another 7 to 12 inches of snow predicted to fall in the mountains.
