An immigrant seeking sanctuary from deportation at the Mancos United Methodist Church has the attention of Colorado’s third district Congressional representative.
Congressman Scott Tipton’s office tells KSJD it has been in contact with the church about the case of Rosa Sabido.
The Mexican national has lived in the Cortez area for the past 30 years. She entered into sanctuary at the church in June after immigration officials denied her request for a seventh stay of removal. She hopes to remain in the area to be near her aging parents. Her father is a U.S. citizen, and her mother is a lawful permanent resident. But their petitions to allow Sabido to remain in the country have not been processed.
The church’s pastor, Craig Pascal, says that legal options are limited, but Sabido’s specific case points out the need for national immigration reform.
Tipton’s spokesperson says the Privacy Act restricts his office from discussing details about his potential actions, but that he is “aware” of Sabido’s case.
