McPhee reservoir has seen a surge in boaters as other lakes around the state restrict motorized boating access due to concerns about invasive mussel introduction. According to a U.S. Forest Service release, usage at McPhee is up 85 percent from last year.
The agency says increased weekend use could create congestion at boat ramps and parking areas. Officials encourage people to use the House Creek boat launch in addition to the lake’s main ramp, especially on weekends. A mussel inspection is also required for all motorized craft entering the lake.
