Oil and Gas Company Cancels Plans to Drill Near Chaco Canyon

Wikimedia Commons

An energy company has withdrawn its right-of-way application to the Bureau of Land Management for a controversial project near Chaco Culture National Historic Park.

The Farmington Daily-Times reports the proposed Piñon Pipeline project is effectively dead. The 50-mile “gathering pipeline” had raised concerns about the possible impact of fracking on Chaco, which is about 10 miles away. A company spokesperson told the Daily-Times the withdrawal decision was purely economic.
