At the end of February, a group of over 2000 representatives from counties all over the nation will gatherin Washington, D.C. They will spend a week holding conferences and trainings about on county governance, and one day meeting with congressional delegations from their respective states. Colorado’s delegation of counties, known as Colorado Counties, inc. (CCI), has voted six top issues for congress to address: broadband expansion, payment in lieu of taxes, rural infrastructure, mental health in county jails, increasing federal funding for early childhood development programs, and eliminating unfunded federal mandates. Representing Montezuma County at the National Association of Counties Conference will be Montezuma County Commission Chair Larry Don Suckla. KSJD's Austin Cope sat down to talk more about what he hopes to communicate to the Federal Government on his trip to Washington, D.C.
