Cuthair Defeats Heart in Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Election

The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe has chosen a new chair.

The Cortez Journal reports that Harold Cuthair defeated incumbent chairman Manuel Heart 376 votes to 201 in the tribal election Friday. Three new council members, Colleen Cuthair-Root,  Prisllena Rabbit, and Elaine Cantsee, also were elected.

Gail Binkly is a career journalist who has worked for the Colorado Springs Gazette and Cortez Journal, and was the editor of the Four Corners Free Press, based in Cortez.
