Cortez Fire Protection District Looks Forward to Having New Fire Station

Cortez Fire Protection District
An architect's rendering of the new fire station in Cortez. Wendy Mimiaga of the Cortez Fire Protection district says the design has been scaled back a small amount due to cost, but it will still be close to this drawing.

In August, the Cortez Fire Protection District was awarded $2 million to help build a new fire station. The grant is part of $27.5 million in energy-impact assistance funds awarded by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs to 48 projects statewide. KSJD's Austin Cope sat down with Shawn Bittle, Assistant Fire Chief for the Cortez Fire Protection District, to learn more about the station.

KSJD's Gail Binkly contributed to this report.

Gail Binkly is a career journalist who has worked for the Colorado Springs Gazette and Cortez Journal, and was the editor of the Four Corners Free Press, based in Cortez.
