Author and wilderness advocate Terry Tempest Williams and her husband are voicing disappointment over the Bureau of Land Management’s decision to reject their offer for oil and gas leases at the agency’s quarterly lease sale in Utah last February.
Through their corporation Tempest Exploration Company, LLC, the couple paid $1,680 for two parcels totaling 1,120 acres near their home in Grand County. Recently, the BLM said it would refund their money because they don’t intend to develop the leases. In a release, Williams said they are being held to a different standard than other lessees, many of whom keep land undeveloped for decades. She said they are considering a legal challenge.
