Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the U.S., yet about 42 million Americans still smoke cigarettes. KSJD's Jeff Pope talks with Midge Kirk from the Montezuma County Health Department about why tobacco use remains a big health issue in the U.S., and about the Great American Smokeout, an event which is held each year in November to encourage smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit.

Quitting Smoking During Pregnancy

Pregnant women who quit smoking are much less likely to have pre-mature and low birth weight babies and reduce the damage that second-hand smoke can have on their babies. KSJD's Tom Yoder talks to Midge Kirk with the Target Tobacco Action Group about "Baby and Me", a smoking cessation program that helps pregnant women quit smoking during and after their pregnancy.
