A criminal suspect reportedly assaulted two Montezuma County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday in the county courthouse. According to an incident report, 40-year-old Shane French has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault on a peace officer, as well as resisting arrest and failure to appear. The report says French was late for court and went upstairs, where he was told he had a warrant. He then reportedly returned downstairs, walked up to security Deputy Emery Brewer, and punched him in the face and groin. Brewer grabbed French as Deputy Dale Foote rushed over to help.
