Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project recently completed an Orchard Market Study with two major findings: First, Montezuma County has the highest concentration and number of old orchards--that is those planted before 1920--in the State of Colorado, and these apple trees are best used as a valuable genetic reservoir. Second, there’s an abundance of juice apples that were planted in the 1930s and 40s that are ideal for juice or cider operations.
