Two flu-related deaths have been reported so far this winter in San Juan County, New Mexico, as one of the worst flu seasons in recent years sweeps the United States. The Farmington Daily Times reports that the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington has admitted about 100 influenza patients, three times as many as last year, and two have died. Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control reports that more than 50 children have died of the disease. The CDC does not track adult deaths related to influenza. Experts urge people to get vaccinated, as the flu season could continue for weeks. They say although this year’s vaccine is a poor match for the flu strains in circulation, the shot could at least lessen the severity of the illness.
