The Dakota Access Pipeline protest has captured the attention of people around the world, touching on a variety of controversial issues like environmental justice, Native American sovereignty, and climate change. KSJD's Tom Yoder spoke with Mancos resident Joanie Trussel, who recently traveled to Standing Rock, North Dakota, the epicenter of the protests, to see for herself what was happening there and to get a better understanding of what is at stake.

Two local events will be held to recognize the protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline:

A march will be held in Durango, Colorado on Tuesday, November 15th at Buckley Park starting at 11:30am.

A talk will be offered at Saint Barnabas Church in Cortez, Colorado on Tuesday, November 15th at 5:30pm where Joanie Trussel will discuss her experiences visiting Standing Rock, North Dakota.

More information on the Dakota Access Pipline protests can be found online at sacredstonecamp.org, or standwithstandingrock.net.
