Southwest Colorado Community College Nursing Program Will Move to Mancos Campus

Southwest Colorado Community College

Southwest Colorado Community College will move its entire nursing program to its Mancos campus by next school year.

SCCC Faculty Coordinator for Nursing Maggie LaRose tells KSJD the college’s Durango campus will host one more year of lecture classes before all 61 Nursing students move to the location between Mancos and Cortez.

She says the move will allow more space for a new simulation lab that will use mannequins for hands-on training, adding that the college hopes to provide housing assistance to students whose commutes will be lengthened by the move.

Austin Cope is a former Morning Edition host for KSJD and now produces work on a freelance basis for the station. He grew up in Cortez and hosted a show on KSJD when he was 10 years old. After graduating from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 2010, he lived in Belgium, Ohio, Spain, northern Wyoming, and Himachal Pradesh, India before returning to the Cortez area. He has a degree in Politics from Oberlin College in Ohio.
