Saving Money By Cutting Fertilizer Costs

Colorado pastures produces good gains on cattle

Alan Newport's article, "You Could Get Off the Fertilizer Wagon, in a recent Beef Producer post, provides some tips for cutting input costs for livestock producers, which also have applications for crop producers.  He suggests that good grazing management helps to improve soil health that in turn, allows the soil to mine nutrients for forage growth.  Key practices include keeping the soil covered, minimize soil disturbance, maintaining a diverse mix of forage plants throughout the growing season, and harvesting forage using controlled grazing.
