Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking public input into a new management plan for desert bighorn sheep living in areas near the Dolores River in western Colorado. Desert bighorns are a subspecies of bighorn sheep that have adapted to living in arid regions of the American Southwest and northern Mexico. In a release, the agency says about 175 desert bighorns are estimated to live in areas in Montezuma, Dolores, San Miguel and Montrose counties. Management plans are written every 10 years for the desert bighorns and help guide the number of hunting licenses issued annually. A survey is available online on the Parks and Wildlife web site.

The survey can be found on the CPW web site at:
http://cpw.state.co.us/thingstodo/Pages/HerdManagementPlans.aspx. The link is on the right side of the page.

If you would like a hard copy of the survey or have any questions about the plan, please contact Brad Banulis in Montrose at 970-252-6051 or by email at brad.banulis@state.co.us; or Brad Weinmeister in Durango at 970-375-6714 or by email at brad.weinmeister@state.co.us
