New Montezuma County Courthouse Holds Grand Opening

The new Montezuma County  Combined Courts building drew rave reviews at its grand opening Wednesday. State Court Administrator Chris Ryan told a packed audience the courthouse is the most technologically advanced in the state, and praised the sheriff’s office for its enhanced security system. Alamosa County  Commissioner Darius Allen, who is a member of the state Underfunded Courthouse Commission, commended the commissioners for their frugality, joking that their e-mail address should be “tightwad.com.” County Commissioner Larry Don Suckla said the original plan had been to remodel the old courthouse downtown, but when that proved impractical, the county managed to build the new structure for a cost of less than $7 million to local taxpayers.
