Mancos Mayor Queenie Barz holds the map of the crosswalk on Highway 160 through Mancos. She said the process took almost ten years to complete, and the town is now looking forward to increased safety for pedestrians

On Monday, the town of Mancos held a groundbreaking ceremony for the town’s second crosswalk across Highway 160, located at the intersection of Beech Street across from the Mancos Vet clinic.

Crews will spend about six weeks rebuilding one of the street’s islands and constructing a second one. They’ll also add signing, crosswalk striping, and pedestrian beacons. Mancos Mayor Queenie Barz joined KSJD's Austin Cope on Morning Edition to talk more about the project and what led up to it.
