Navajo Generating Station Supporters Plan Rally in Phoenix

A march in support of the Navajo Generating Station in Page, Arizona, was scheduled to take place Tuesday to the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix. The Arizona Republic reports that mine workers and others who want to see the coal-fired power plant stay open were planning the event. The plant’s owners say they will shut it down at the end of 2019 because natural gas is a cheaper way to produce electricity. However, both the Navajo and Hopi nations rely heavily on revenues and jobs from the plant and the Kayenta coal mine that feeds it.
