The Montezuma County Commissioners have set a public hearing for June 19th to consider extending the current closure of County Road X in the Sage Hen area.
Concerns over the possible infestation of McPhee Reservoir by invasive mussels recently sparked an emergency closure of the road, which provides a way that uninspected watercraft can be launched onto the lake. On Monday the commissioners discussed the closure with Dolores District Ranger Derek Padilla and federal-lands coordinator James Dieterich, who has developed a four-phase plan to seal off motorized access from Road X to the Great Cut Dike. The county is seeking long-term solutions that would still allow access for agricultural and some recreational uses.
