Mancos Town Administrator Andrea Phillips has resigned as of April 17th.
At a special meeting April 19th, the town board voted unanimously, with one member absent, to accept her resignation. That followed an hour-long executive session on April 12th to discuss Phillips’ evaluation. Phillips had been administrator since 2013. Mayor Queenie Barz tells KSJD the separation “was a very amicable decision between the board and Andrea.” Barz continues, “We discussed some things and her contract was coming up and she chose to resign.” She says Phillips “did a great job for the town.” According to meeting minutes, Phillips will be paid for unused vacation time and severance pay through August 31st. In her letter of resignation, Phillips praised “the hardworking and dedicated town staff and many volunteers” working to make Mancos better. She cited some of the town’s achievements during her tenure, including securing millions of dollars in grants for water and sewer infrastructure, improvements to transportation, and obtaining status as a Certified Creative District. Barz says the board will take some time to consider the direction it wants to pursue before advertising for a new administrator. Meanwhile, town clerk Heather Alvarez will serve as interim administrator. Barz says the staff and board will work closely to move forward with current projects. Those include a new pedestrian crosswalk, improvements to the wastewater-treatment plant, and water-line repairs.
