Mancos District Employee Allegedly Fabricated Phone Threat That Closed Schools

A temporary employee of the Mancos School District is facing charges after allegedly reporting a false threat to the school on Friday. According to a report by the Mancos Marshal’s office, the temporary administrative assistant claimed to have received an anonymous threatening call Friday morning. Schools were closed a few hours later. But on Monday, the employee reportedly admitted fabricating the call. The suspect claimed she was anxious that she hadn’t been trained on how to respond to threats or an active shooter. She allegedly made a fake call from her own cell phone to encourage students and staff to leave the school before there was an actual threat. She was charged with interference with staff, faculty, or students of educational institutions and false reporting. Both charges are misdemeanors.
