Land Swap Prepares for New School in Bluff

Austin Cope

The town of Bluff has moved a step closer to building a new school.

The San Juan Record reportsthe San Juan School Board approved a land trade with the Utah Navajo Trust Fund on April 4th. The district will receive a 24-acre tract of land located on the Bluff Fairgrounds in exchange for piece of land in Monument Valley.

The Fairgrounds location is different from property the school board purchased in 2015, which had been opposed by certain groups because it contained prehistoric burials.

Now that the new land has been secured, officials hope to replace the town’s elementary school, which was built over 50 years ago. The Utah Navajo Trust Fund is expected to meet soon to finalize approval of the deal.
