KSJD Newscast - November 12th, 2015

  • Mancos Marshal put on paid administrative leave for an undetermined period of time.
  • Montezuma County Planning and Zoning Commission seeking applicants to fill three openings.

The Mancos Marshal has been put on paid administrative leave for an undetermined period of time. The Cortez Journal reports that the Town Board decided to place John Cox on leave for an undisclosed reason during an executive session at a special meeting on November 4th. The municipality’s two deputy marshals are now providing law-enforcement coverage. Cox has been marshal since April 2013.

The Montezuma County Planning and Zoning Commission is seeking applicants to fill three openings beginning in January. The advisory board, which once had seven members as well as two alternates, is now down to five. The terms of planners Dennis Atwater, Bob Clayton, and Kelly Belt are all up in December, although the incumbents can reapply. In addition to studying individual development and permit requests, the board considers broader matters. On Thursday night, for instance it will look at the use of state regulations known as 1041 rules that might help the county protect the Phil’s World bike trail from energy development. Any interested county residents are asked to fill out an application and submit it along with a letter of interest to the county planning office, no later than 4 p.m. on November 30th. Appointments are made by the county commissioners.
