  • Coalition of New Mexico environmentalists collects 25,000 comments in support of proposed methane gas emission regulations.

A 15-year effort to build a new campus for the Four Corners School of Outdoor Education is coming to fruition. On Thursday, local residents will get a look at the school’s new $8.5 million Canyon Country Discovery Center located on 48 acres just north of Monticello, Utah. The Four Corners School offers learning experiences on the Colorado Plateau. Programs include Next Generation Science Standards and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities for grades K-12. On Thursday there will be an open house from 3:30 to 6:30 featuring tours of the new building and campus, followed by speakers and refreshments from 6:30 to 8. The center will have its grand opening this summer.

A coalition of New Mexico environmentalists says it has collected 25,000 public comments in support of the Obama administration’s proposed regulations on methane emissions by the oil and gas industry. The Farmington Daily Times reports that members of the Sierra Club held a conference call with a spokesperson for the Navajo Nation-based group Diné CARE, along with activist and rancher Tweeti Blancett, to announce their support for the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rules but also to say that they don’t go far enough to protect the health of residents in areas of northern New Mexico, where energy activity is heavy.
