February Precipitation: "[It's] Trying, But Not With Too Much Success," Weather Observer Says

A winter storm on Wednesday and Thursday brought some much-needed precipitation to Southwestern Colorado. However, snow levels are still far below average. Jim Andrus of the National Weather Service tells KSJD that Cortez has only received four tenths of an inch of precipitation this month. That brings total amounts to about 3.5 inches since November, or 10 percent of normal. However, the San Juan Mountains have been slightly more lucky-- Mike Preston of the Dolores Water Conservancy District says the average snowpack for several peaks in the range was at 51 percent as of Thursday.  Another storm is predicted to come through the region on Monday.
