Colorado State Senator Ellen Roberts, who represents eight counties including Montezuma and La Plata, is resigning at the end of the year.

Roberts, a Republican from Durango, is in the middle of her second four-year term. In a letter in the Pagosa Sun, Roberts said the time has come for her to move on and she is looking forward to spending more time with family. A Republican committee will choose her replacement. 58th District Representative Don Coram of Montrose is reported to be a leading prospect.
