A teenage boy who reported being sucker-punched and robbed on Durango’s Animas River Trail on Monday has admitted he made up the tale.

According to a release from the city, the 15-year-old had actually met with two other young men to settle an argument, and the 15-year-old came out on the losing end of the resulting fracas. He reportedly told police he fabricated the robbery story because he was scared.
