The Montezuma County Agricultural extension has been in the news quite a bit lately, as the Montezuma County Commissioners take a closer look at how the office is run. But the history of the extension office in Montezuma County goes back to 1917, according to its director Tom Hooten. During World War I, he says the extension helped people make "victory gardens" to help supply food during the war effort.  Since then, he says the extension has focused on two primary things: grasshoppers and prairie dogs. He came into the KSJD studios to talk more about his perspectives on running the office.
