Developers Continue Battle to Build Resort on Wolf Creek Pass

The decades-long fight over a proposed luxury resort in the Rio Grande National Forest high on Colorado’s Wolf Creek Pass is not over. The would-be developers of the Village at Wolf Creek have filed an appeal with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals over a federal judge’s decision in May that the venture needs further environmental review. Senior District U.S. Judge Richard P. Matsch had ruled that Forest Service officials had engaged in what he called “a patent effort to circumvent” their obligation to protect the forest’s natural environment. But on Friday, the Leavell-McCombs Joint Venture, a development company led by Texas billionaire Red McCombs, filed an appeal challenging that ruling.
