Cortez Won’t Build Medians Downtown Until Spring 2018

The City of Cortez will wait until next year to install medians on Main Street.

Cortez Public Works Director Phil Johnson tells KSJD the City did not receive bids from contractors in time to begin the project this fall. The City will now accept bids in January, and Johnson says he expects more contractors to apply at that time.

Despite the delay, the City will not change its existing construction plans, which include building medians on Main Street in the central business district and the High School.

Johnson says waiting until spring will bring fewer impacts to downtown businesses during the Christmas shopping season and allow for better weather during construction. The City will now focus on existing construction projects this fall.
