The Dolores Water Conservancy District announced Wednesday that McPhee Reservoir is now over a 50 percent chance for a spill.
In a release, the district said above-average snowfall is helping with reservoir levels. Current storage indicates a possible spill would take place mid-to-late May and last two to four weeks.
The announcement is in contrast to last winter’s weak precipitation and when McPhee inflow hit historic lows. This month last year, a press release had a grim outlook that described the chances of a spill as “highly unlikely.” In April, the district announced no spill would take place in 2018.
The district will release another update after the next Colorado Basin River Forecast Center forecast, expected around April 5. A public meeting will also be scheduled for mid-April.
