The Cortez community is mourning the loss of longtime Montezuma-Cortez High School social-studies teacher Ray Harriman, who died Tuesday while driving in Dolores.

The Cortez Journal reports that the 61-year-old likely suffered heart failure before crashing his car into the Dolores River near the Fourth Street Bridge. On his Facebook page, Harriman described himself as “a teacher who learns more from my students than they ever learn from me.”
