The City of Cortez’s Linda Smith has been named Clerk of the Year by the Colorado Municipal Clerks Association. Smith was recognized for her achievement at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.

In a letter nominating her for the honor, City Manager Shane Hale said Smith is “extremely well liked and respected” by local residents, elected officials and municipal staff. He praised her expertise in multiple aspects of her position, her passion for the job, her positive attitude and ever-present smile. Mayor Karen Sheek, who also wrote a letter supporting Smith, said, “Her philosophy of service and work ethic is a model for all who work with the public.” Smith tells KSJD the award took her completely by surprise.
