The Needles Outpost was listed for auction on SITLA's website earlier this year

A conservationist has reportedly purchased a parcel of state trust land at the Needles entrance to Canyonlands National Park.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Jennifer Speers, who is affiliated with the Wilderness Society and The Nature Conservancy, bought the 640-acre tract for $2.5 million. The parcel was owned by Utah’s School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration, or SITLA. Speers reportedly is planning to put a conservation easement on the parcel.
