More people are visiting the new Bears Ears National Monument this season, according to the Bureau of Land Management.

BLM Monticello Field Office Manager Don Hoffheins says visitation to the monument is about 1.5 to 2 times higher than last year. However, those numbers are estimates only, and the agency has not yet compiled specific visitation data for the past year. Despite the increase in visitation, however, Hoffheins says his field staff has not seen increased damage to sites or monument resources.
