Anasazi Heritage Center Will Now Host 2016 Luminaria Night

A local holiday tradition that had been canceled has been given a new lease on life in a different location.

The Luminaria Night celebration formerly held at Mesa Verde National Park will take place instead at the Anasazi Heritage Center on Highway 184 near Dolores. The park had cancelled festivities because of an unstable rock arch over an alcove that is normally illuminated during the event. But now luminarias will glow on December 8th from 5 to 8 p.m. along the Heritage Center’s path to the Escalante Pueblo ruins. Everyone is invited to enjoy star-gazing, refreshments, music and free admission, but there’s one caveat: The center’s only parking will be for handicapped accessibility. Instead, take a free shuttle that night from the Colorado Welcome Center in Cortez.
