2018 Dolores Town Board Election Will See Many More Candidates Than Last Cycle, Clerk Says

KSJD File Photo

April’s election for the Dolores Town Board of Trustees will see a surge of contenders this year.

According to Lana Hancock, Dolores Town Clerk and Treasurer, the number of candidates running in 2018 is much higher than in previous years. Eleven candidates, including two incumbents, are competing for just four seats on the Board. Two more candidates are also competing for mayor. Hancock says only four candidates ran for trustee and one ran for mayor during the last election cycle. She declined to speculate on why so many candidates are running his year. But the Town Board has seen increased public engagement since it voted to close--and later demolish--a public playground in Joe Rowell Park. The Dolores Town Board election will occur on April 3rd of this year, along with municipal elections for Cortez and Mancos. A list of candidates is available here.
