Chandrika had been a great fan of public radio since 1985, when she began cohosting a show on healthcare on KXCI in Tucson Arizona. In addition to Journey to the East she also cohosts a morning news show on the Zine, called "Pandora's Box ", a show about the environment and health. Having been a longtime student of yoga and meditation, she became interested in chanting as a yogic practice in order to maintain her sanity while going through naturopathic medical school.
So, having experienced kirtan as a yoga practice and having a great interest in the healing aspects of music and sound, she was more than willing to collaborate with DJ Theo on a world music show that featured the spiritual music of the Middle East, India, and Asia.
This is the story of journey to the east. Many years ago two kindred spirits met on the road to bhakti Fest in Joshua tree California. Inspired by four days of continuous kirtan music, yoga and dancing the two decided to become DJTheo and Chandrika to collaborate on the Journey to the East music show on KSJD. Later they were joined by DJ Lily who spins out tunes on world vibrations every alternating Tuesday to provide listeners with a great global musical experience.
