Southwest Memorial Hospital Presents Lecture on Emotional Health
Local psychiatrist Lori Raney, MD, will be the featured speaker at the next "Staying Healthy" lecture at Southwest Memorial Hospital. Dr. Raney will present “Nurturing Your Emotional Health” on Thursday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria, 1311 N. Mildred Road in Cortez. Participants will learn about the origins of emotional distress, find out how common mental disorders are identified and treated, and learn how to take care of themselves with an Emotional Wellness Plan. Aspen Guard Station Artist in Residence Juantio Becenti of Cortez, an award-winning Navajo composer, will offer a free discussion on music at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 10th at the Cortez Cultural Center. Becenti will play a recorded selection from his Sonata for Solo Cello No. 1, which was inspired by his residency at the historic cabin last year. Griffin & Sabine and Beyond, Nick Bantock: A Retrospective
On September 18th, The Museum of Outdoor Arts in Englewood, Colorado, will present Griffin & Sabine and Beyond, Nick Bantock: A Retrospective. The exhibition will be the artist’s first ever retrospective and his first show in the United States. For the exhibition, Bantock is creating 80 new paintings or drawings. Approximately 70 pieces of original art from his “Griffin & Sabine” trilogy will be on exhibit as well. On September 18th the museum will hold a book signing from 4 to 5 pm, which will be followed by an artist reception from 5 to 9 pm. The opening is free and open to the public. The Cortez Farmers' Market will host the Cortez Public Library's Saturday Storytime every Saturday at 9:30 am. It's a half hour of songs, stories and silliness. "Yippee, Here We Go Again!" is the September theme of Storytime at the Cortez Public Library. Storytime is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool children and every Saturday through October, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cortez Farmers Market on the corner of Elm and Main streets in Cortez.
